Mr Lee said: "In Singapore, I'm worried about what the people think of me. As long as the people understand that what I am doing is in their best interests and there is no alternative that is better than what, not just me but my successors, are offering, we are not doing too badly. "The final test is not whether you are rated by Amnesty International or Human Rights International, but the satisfaction of the people you are governing towards you and what you have delivered." -

MAYDAY MAYDAY!!

what's wrong?

Nine in 10 Singaporeans fear losing jobs to foreigners: report

Nearly nine out of 10 Singaporeans fear foreign professionals will take their jobs, and oppose efforts to woo them to the city-state, the Sunday Times has reported.

More than half the 448 people polled by the paper's publisher, Singapore Press Holdings, believe the city-state has allowed enough foreign talent in and should stop trying to attract more.

Singapore has aggressively stepped up efforts to attract more talented foreign professionals to boost its labour pool and address a baby shortage.

The government has said attracting talented foreign migrants is crucial to Singapore's long-term competitiveness.

But the campaign has triggered insecurity among locals.

The survey showed 43 percent believe the government is more concerned about foreign talent than its own citizens and doubt the move will help create jobs.

Recent moves by the government to hike healthcare charges and school fees for foreigners should address the perception that the government cares more for them, MP Halimah Yacob was quoted as saying in the report.

"This change will create a sharper distinction between the rights and privileges of citizenship compared with non-citizens," she said.

Official statistics show 18 percent of the 4.4 million population are foreigners.

18%!! that's a whole fucking lot of supposedly foreign TALENTS.

We have no right, we have no say, and we long to be free one day.

oookay, any talents here?

please evacuate ASAP.

I want no excuses.

-----
WAIT please . Do not leave. Actually, they are an invaluable asset in our society, i just found out that too. Be enlightened and, not be a frog in a well, like i was a few minutes ago.

Foreign talents are, effectively white-collar jobs that has a minimum salary criteria. The purpose of having foreign talents is:
1. To have a large white-collar/professional employee pool to attract foreign investment.
2. To bring in expertise that cannot be found locally, normally in R&D or top management area.

However, due to the low salary expectation of the first type of foreign talents, they are in a more favourable position than their singaporean counterparts. Ask a local uni fresh grad to take up a position at $2k, he might not be willing. For that amount, u can get a Master grad from India with 1-2 years of experiences, and of the same age.

And that's one "hidden" purpose of having foreign talents:
- To keep our wages under control

3. to control Singaporeans' wages

i shall not generalize, there is still the foreign workers.
They are, however, quite different, but still, an invaluable asset. They accept jobs that no asians will be willing to do,
accept long working hours with a lower wage ,
Seldom slack at their jobs.
They are good, but most are banglas. I think that's the the main problem up to date.
